Russell Gainer, LCSW-S

Russell is a health care professional with many years’ experience in various settings. His Professional experience includes working with/as: Crisis Hotlines, as an Adult Probation Officer, DWI Education Instructor, Adult, Adolescent and Children Psychiatric Hospital Counselor, over 18 years in Hospice, Adjunct Professor Teaching Sociology and Psychology, Private Psychotherapy Practitioner and National Hospice Consultant, Hypnosis and Guided Imagery Instructor, and a Professional Geriatric Care Manager.

He is also an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association and is a past President of the Funeral Consumers Alliance of San Antonio.

Denise Welmaker, LCSW-S

Denise, LCSW-S has provided counseling services in the community since 1998. She has worked in hospitals, hospice and home health, as well as a geriatric mental health facility. Her experience in the field of geriatric mental health has been her primary focus during this time and has led her to partnering with Russell Gainer in creating GainWel. Denise enjoys working with other professionals and families to improve the quality of life in the senior population.

Denise is a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association, facilitating a Caregiver Support group. She is also a member of the Dementia Friendly Advisory Counsel working to help educate the community about interacting with People suffering from Dementia. She also is enthusiastic about providing Supervision to LMSWs working towards their LCSW licensure.

Erika von Lowe, LPC-S

Erika von Loewe is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor who currently works with The Center for Health Care Services as a Licensed Intake Clinician completing Intake assessments, diagnosis, and counseling services for individuals referred by the criminal justice system.  Erika has worked in the San Antonio community for over 20 years providing clinical assessment, counseling, case management, social services, and collaborative approaches partnering with community agencies. 

Erika’s experience spans a variety of environments and populations including children, adolescents, families, adults, and geriatrics working in nursing homes, schools, outpatient /inpatient/IOP treatment settings, private practice, community clinics, outpatient court commitments, and multi-agency teams partnering with SAPD and SAFD

Erika utilizes an eclectic counseling style, which is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy practices.  Erika has provided direct services and clinical guidance/supervision to case managers working with court-ordered community-based programs with individuals identified highest risk and the most vulnerable in our community.

Erika is a strong advocate for the clients she serves and a visionary for a seamless trauma-informed collaborative system of care. When working with clients individually Erika believes relationships are at the foundation of change and that it is within safe relationships and systems that people find access to the parts of themselves that need healing.  

David Duncan, LCSW

David Duncan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the mental health field for 27 years. Over the course of his career he has held license as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, both in Social Work, from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX.

David’s experience includes work with Adolescents, Adults and Seniors. He worked at the adolescent Residential Treatment Center at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center for 8 years as an Individual, Family and Group therapist. David was in private practice in San Antonio,TX with the Family Guidance Clinic of Dr. Jose Hernandez and in Corpus Christi, TX in association with Dr. Mario Quintanilla. He has worked in adult mental health on crisis stabilization units as well as both inpatient and outpatient settings. He worked as a clinical practitioner for the Center for Health Care Services for 9 years completing initial assessments on children, adolescents and adults seeking mental health services.

David’s approach to therapy is eclectic and from a client centered focus. He has experience working with depression, anxiety, chronic and debilitating illness, interpersonal and family conflicts and sexual orientation issues.

Montreece N. Green, LCSW-S

Montreece is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked with children, families and individuals in various settings over the last 24 years to include juvenile probation, residential treatment, drug court, the child welfare system for over 16 years and most recently in an inpatient hospital setting working specifically in Women’s Services. Montreece’s volunteer experience includes work at the Rape Crisis Center, Uganda Children’s Ministry, Sunday School Ministry, Foster/Adopt Ministry and as a Prayer Facilitator.

Montreece received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology at the University of Texas at San Antonio and her Master of Social Work Degree at Texas State University. She has worked extensively with individuals impacted by abuse, neglect, substance use, mental health, incarceration and illness and is committed to helping others improve their quality of life.

Cynthia Morrison, LCSW

Cynthia moved to San Antonio for her spouse’s military service and received her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Texas in San Antonio. Over the past 12 years, she has had experience in a variety of settings including nursing homes, hospice care, an emergency shelter, a group home, and a psychiatric hospital.

Her experience includes working with teens, young adults, veterans, and the geriatric population with diagnoses including Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Anxiety, Depression, and Adjustment Disorders.

Alice Narvaez, Ph.D.

Alice Narvaez is a licensed Clinical Psychologist. She earned her B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in School Psychology at Trinity University. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Ohio University. Although she worked primarily with children and their families earlier in her career, she now focuses her practice on working with older adults in their homes, assisted living communities and nursing homes.

Kathy E. Phoenix, DSW, LCSW-S

Kathy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has had the privilege of journeying with individuals as a social worker since 1989. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings to include mental health, chronic illness, geriatrics, palliative & hospice care, and complicated grief & bereavement.

Kathy also served in the US Army Reserve from 1989 – 1996 as a medical laboratory specialist and has continued to incorporate a specialty of working with veterans and their families into her social work practice. Along with maintaining a small clinical practice, Kathy is a full-time Associate Professor of Social Work at OLLU in San Antonio, TX.

Clarisa Valerio Villa, LCSW-S

Clarisa Valerio Villa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the mental health field for 13 years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at San Antonio and her Master’s degrees in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Clarisa’s experience includes working with Adolescents, Adults and Seniors. She worked at Child Safe for 3 years working with children and families with child sexual abuse, then for 7 years at the Krier Center, and with Congreso De Latinos Unidos as a Director of a Drug and Alcohol Clinic for 1 year. For 4 years, she was providing geriatric counseling for Deer Oaks Nursing Home as well as providing therapy to male detainees facing deportation for ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Currently, she is part of Nueva Vida Behavioral Associates as well as GainWel Creative Home Counseling.

Clarisa specializes in treating ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Family Conflict, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Addiction, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Grief/Loss Issues, End of Life Issues, Crisis Stabilization, Divorce, CPS related cases, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Personality Disorder and Couples Counseling.
